Northeast Power Dry Q&A

Can I turn the equipment off at night?

No!

In order to dry your property successfully, it is important to keep the equipment running 24 hours a day. The equipment is specially designed to run continuously for long periods of time without overheating

Can I walk on the area during the drying process?

It is strongly suggested that you keep traffic to a minimum. Wearing shoes is recommended.

Can my carpet be restored or will it have to be replaced?

There are a few reasons why your carpet may not be salvageable. They are the following: delamination (occurs when the backing separates from the carpet fiber), loss of adhesion (may be caused by prolonged exposure to water or age of the carpet), permanent stains, carpet covers wood flooring (to salvage the wood flooring), and sewage contamination.

Does everything need to be moved out during restoration?

Not usually. If items need to be moved out, we will let you know in advance.

How do I know when my property is completely dry?

Our technicians will come to properly test with our specialized equipment to determine if things are fully dry. Touch alone can be a false indicator.

How do you handle sewage contamination?

Hard surfaces can be cleaned and sanitized. Infected items that cannot be cleaned properly require removal and disposal. Porous materials such as drywall, ceiling tiles, insulation, particleboard, paneling, etc., should be removed during the emergency service visit.

How long will it take to dry my property?

It depends! Our team arrives on site as soon as possible to assess the damage. The time that it will take to completely dry the property depends on the size and scope of the loss. Other factors that also affect the drying time include the type of water damage, how long the water sits for, and the type of materials affected. The typical drying period takes around 2-3 days. However, this may be shorter or longer depending on the severity of the situation.

My ceilings are wet. What needs to be done?

Our technicians will evaluate moisture content, determine the severity of the damage and may have to remove some of your ceiling for ventilation. Wet insulation can also be a hazard and may need to be removed.

My wood floors are wet and buckling. Will they have to be replaced?

Wood flooring must be evaluated during the drying process. We employ specialized drying systems and dehumidifiers that enable us to create an environment where floors can dry more efficiently and resume their original shape.

Should I open the windows to help the drying process?

Opening your windows to assist the drying process is not always recommended. Outside weather conditions may vary, so the technician will determine when and if the outside air is appropriate.

What happens and what are the effects when water floods my property?

First, when water contacts drywall, the paint begins to bubble and peel. After that, the water starts to saturate the insulation behind the drywall.

Next, if the water remains on your property for an extended period of time, the wood structures will begin to swell. The longer the water sits there, the more damage it will cause. Wood exposed to long-term water damage rots.

Third, water-soaked carpets can be permanently ruined.

Fourth, water can damage electronic equipment and create safety hazards within your property.

Why are air movers and dehumidifiers used?

When water damage has occurred, water can be absorbed into the drywall (sheetrock), baseboards, subflooring, and similar materials that construct the home. Drying these surfaces requires high velocity air movers to accelerate the release of absorbed water into the air. Dehumidifiers are necassary for removing this excess moisture to help protect property and create conditions for efficient drying. Please do not turn off or move drying equipment without Northeast Power Dry approval.

Why can't I dry out the damage myself?

Although you may be able to clean up some of the water in your home, it is the water that you can’t see that’s the problem. Mold and mildew can grow in the dark cavities of your home if you do not remove all of the water damage completely. It is very important that meters are used to measure the moisture in your home to prevent any further damage.

Will turning up the heat help dry things out?

Not necessarily. We will adjust the temperature to its optimum setting for the proper drying conditions. Please do not change the setting or shut off the system; doing so may prolong the drying process.
